University Wins Key Tennis Match
IRVINE — Though University was without its No. 1 singles player, the Trojans’ boys’ tennis team, ranked No. 4 in the Southern Section Division 4-A, defeated third-ranked Beverly Hills, 12-6, in a nonleague match Monday at University.
John Bowerbank, the Trojans’ No. 1 player who sprained his ankle Sunday in a junior tournament, wasn’t able to play, but Ali Esna swept his singles sets and the Trojans won eight of nine doubles sets. The doubles team of Robbie Wilkins and Bryan Shapiro won, 6-2, 6-0, 6-0, for the Trojans (9-1).
