Cornerback Gray Leaves Rams for Oilers

HOUSTON — Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jerry Gray confirmed Monday night that he will play for the Houston Oilers next season.
“I’m happy,” Gray told KRIV-TV in Houston. “I think it’s great for me. I’m from Texas, and this gives me an opportunity to play in my home state.”
Gray, the Rams’ first-round draft choice in 1985, lost his starting job to Todd Lyght at midseason. Gray had 39 tackles and three interceptions, one a 59-yard touchdown return.
Gray reportedly will earn $750,000.
“I’m not shocked it’s done,” Gray said. “I’ve wanted to play for Houston for a long time.
“I don’t see any better place to play than the Oilers, because I think I have a chance to go to the Super Bowl.”
