Chiropractor Sentenced in Sex Assaults
Rolling Hills Estates chiropractor Tychicus Yu was sentenced to eight years in prison Thursday after pleading no contest to four charges of sexually assaulting two patients he was treating for headaches.
Long Beach Superior Court Judge Richard F. Charvat sentenced Yu after hearing two hours of emotional testimony from the two victims and their supporters, as well as a spirited defense of Yu by his family and friends. Many on both sides broke into tears after the sentence was read.
“We feel that justice has been done,” said the husband of one victim, a Lomita woman who said Yu drugged and assaulted her two years ago.
She added: “Now we’re going to just put our lives back together.”
During the sentencing hearing, Yu’s supporters praised what they called his professionalism and trustworthiness and urged that he be given probation. Yu’s attorney, Henry Salcido of Wilmington, expressed disappointment and called the sentence “excessive.”
