Earl Bernard Doolin, 86, co-founder of the snack company that became Frito-Lay. Using a recipe they bought from a Mexican cafe, Doolin and his brother, Charles Elmer Doolin, started the Frito Co. in 1932 by making corn chips in the kitchen of the family home in San Antonio. The company went public in 1953. When he retired in 1954, Doolin was first vice president and secretary. The Frito Co. merged with H.W. Lay Co. in 1961 as Frito-Lay, and in 1965 became a unit of Pepsico. His brother died in 1959. On April 1 in Athens, Tex.
