America West Airlines, operating under federal bankruptcy protection, narrowed its first-quarter loss to $10 million, aided in part by sale of a route to Japan.
The Phoenix-based carrier’s loss amounted to 44 cents per share and came on revenue of $337.1 million. The company lost $49.9 million, or $2.54 per share, in the first quarter of 1991, on revenue of $352.9 million.
The latest results were boosted by the sale of the airline’s route from Honolulu to Nagoya, Japan, to Northwest Airlines for $15 million in April.
