Purchase of Library Site Wins Approval
MISSION VIEJO — The City Council on Monday approved the purchase of 6.5 acres of land for a new library.
The city agreed to pay $2.5 million for the land at the intersection of Marguerite Parkway and La Paz Road. Library supporters say they will now launch a citywide fund-raising drive to help build a state-of-the-art facility.
“It’s a dream come true,” said Councilman Robert D. Breton. “It will be magnificent. It will be the crown jewel of the city.”
The city is asking interested citizens to join the Mission Viejo Friends of the Library to help decide on a design for the building and prioritize a long wish list of amenities. Residents can sign up at a celebration of the land purchase to be held at the current library, 24851 Chrisanta Drive, on June 7 at 2 p.m.
Residents can look at preliminary drawings for the library and enjoy catered food, chamber music and entertainment for children.
