CHULA VISTA : Grand Jury Indicts Ex-Police Officer
A retired police officer was indicted Wednesday by the county grand jury on eight counts alleging that he stole more than 3 pounds of cocaine, $1,000 and an AK-47 semiautomatic assault rifle seized in drug raids, prosecutors said.
George Hart Jr., 46, was charged with one count each of grand theft, possessing cocaine and grand theft of a firearm as well as three counts of forgery and two counts of misappropriation of public funds, Deputy Dist. Atty. Bill Collins said.
If convicted of all charges, Hart could be sentenced to about 7 1/2 years in state prison, Collins said. Hart is due to surrender voluntarily to authorities, Collins said.
Hart retired in April, 1991, from the Chula Vista Police Department.
