Support for CHP, Guard

On May 1, my CHP squad was assigned to provide escort to the fire trucks operating from the Los Angeles County Fire Station on Mackee Street, just north of Florence Avenue. As numerous buildings smoldered and burned on Florence Avenue, the residents on Mackee Street began to get on with their lives. We were very appreciative of the residents who made sandwiches and lemonade for us and none of us will forget the three small children who carried a box of colas up and down the street offering them to the officers who were standing by to go on runs.

On behalf of myself and the officers of Squads 3 and 4, Company “A.A.” of the CHP, our thanks to the men, women and children on Mackee Street who helped make a 17-hour shift bearable.

SGT. KENT B. BERGQUIST
