COLLEGE BASEBALL DAILY PLAYOFF REPORT : CAL LUTHERAN : Rain Gives Kingsmen Another Day Off
Rain forced postponement of Cal Lutheran’s second-round NCAA Division III tournament game Saturday against Methodist College of Fayetteville, N.C., in Battle Creek, Mich.
The game has been rescheduled for today at 10 a.m. PDT.
If the Kingsmen beat Methodist, they will return to the original schedule, playing their third game Monday night. But if they lose, the Kingsmen will have to play a second game today, against Wisconsin Oshkosh at 4:30 p.m.
Left-hander Pat Norville (9-2, 1.33 earned-run average) will start for CLU. Methodist will counter with its ace, left-hander Mike Rohr (13-1, 1.72 ERA).
After two days without a game, boredom and claustrophobia have set in among the Cal Lutheran players.
“This town is really small (pop. 53,540) so we’re dealing with that and the fact that we are confined to the hotel,” right fielder Bob Farber said. “It is a little aggravating and frustrating, but I don’t think it’ll affect our ability to compete.”
Reliever Jeff Berman, a former Newbury Park High and Moorpark College standout, passed the time sleeping. But he insisted the team will be wide awake today.
“We’ll keep the same intensity,” he said. “We’ve been intense all year long. There won’t be any effect from this.”
