DR. SHERIFF? Orange County Sheriff Brad Gates, above, is attending his daughter’s college graduation this weekend. But before long she may be attending his. Gates became a deputy sheriff in 1961, but in his spare time since he has earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees. . . . Now Gates is in the final stages of his doctorate in government from Claremont College. Though not currently enrolled, Gates stated in a recent deposition that he’s only a couple of thesis papers short.
