The People vs. ‘Murphy Brown’
Educators repeatedly witness the results of the extraordinary neglect, abuse and molestation suffered by children born out of wedlock. I must protest on their behalf, therefore, the glorification of illegitimacy depicted on “Murphy Brown” (CBS).
TV critic Tom Shales (TV Times, May 17) finds this tribute to illegitimacy “satisfying,” “great,” “admirable,” “commendable” and actually “achingly funny.” God help the nation if such a cavalier attitude toward marriage becomes acceptable.
