Tony in Name Only
The producers of this year’s tiresome Tony Awards tribute (CBS, May 31) evidently decided that, by eliminating excerpts from the nominated best plays, it would permit more time for recipients to pay much-needed homage to their agents, hairdressers and couturiers. Further, by “pre-presenting” such insignificant awards as best author, CBS was able to squeeze in extra promos for its summer schedule--plus an infinity of political ads.
