President Bush’s ’92 Campaign
Why does it seem that President Bush is always looking for a fight? Referring to his campaign, he said he was getting ready to “roll up his sleeves” to duke it out with Perot and Clinton. In his State of the Union address, he said that if Congress didn’t pass his legislation, he “loves a good fair fight.” He’s always referring to the whipping he gave Saddam Hussein, and in 1984, after his debate with Geraldine Ferraro, he claimed to have “kicked a little ass.”
This is amazing talk from someone who so strongly wants to avoid conflict that he changes his positions like a reed twisting in a political wind. He won’t raise taxes, then he does raise taxes and then he’s sorry he raised taxes. He claims that his opponents don’t have the experience to be President, then he tries to claim that he is the real outsider.
Bush reminds me of people in high school who would brag about how tough they were, but when challenged, would turn spineless and do everything to avoid a fight. And do you know what those people were called? Wimps.
