Azusa : Trash Rates to Increase
The City Council voted 4 to 0 to raise commercial and residential trash rates by 44 cents per month. Councilman Anthony Naranjo was absent from the meeting.
Western Disposal Co., which has been the city’s trash hauler for more than 40 years, requested the increase to compensate for increased dumping fees at the BKK Landfill in West Covina.
The new monthly bill to Azusa customers will be $9.71, with $8.19 going to Western Disposal and the difference, which remains unchanged, going to the general fund to defray the cost of billing.
City staff surveyed trash hauling costs of surrounding cities and determined that even with the increase, Azusa’s collection fee is one of the lowest in the San Gabriel Valley.
