LOS ANGELES : Deputies Rescue Man Who Threatened Suicide
A man threatening to jump onto the Blue Line tracks from a walkway south of the Slauson station forced the Southern California Rapid Transit District to temporarily interrupt train service Friday afternoon, an RTD spokesman said.
Sheriff’s Lt. Gary Schoeller said Michael Eugene Chatterfield, 38, of Los Angeles told deputies he was despondent over the loss of his parents. Deputies talked him down from his perch and county paramedics took him to Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center for observation.
For about an hour after the incident started at 12:10 p.m., northbound trains were stopped at the Florence station and southbound trains traveled no further than the Washington station, RTD spokesman Rick Jaeger said. Passengers on the halted trains were bused across the gap to complete their trips.
