Edmonson, Schieke Take Trans Am Lead
James (Echo) Edmonson of Los Angeles and Helmut Schieke of Germany held the lead after Saturday’s first stage of the Runner’s World Trans America Footrace.
The 49.8-mile stage began at Huntington State Beach and finished in Rancho Cucamonga with Schieke, 52, and Edmonson, 49, completing the course in seven hours 25 minutes 41 seconds. David Warady of Huntington Beach was sixth, finishing in 8:04.00.
Saturday was the first of 64 consecutive days of racing. The 3,000-mile race concludes Aug. 22 in New York City.
