SUMMER GAMES SPOTLIGHT : BARCELONA ’92 OLYMPICS : NEXT U.S. TEAM WAITS IN THE WINGS
For some reason, there have been suggestions that, because the U.S. men’s basketball team has been so dominant in the Olympics, the United States might change its approach to international play.
NBA Commissioner David Stern dismissed that notion, saying: “The NBA’s best players will continue as members of the U.S. national team at the next World Championships and at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. The players won’t be the same, but they will still be big names, such as Shaquille O’Neal or Kevin Johnson.”
This a daily roundup of Olympic-related items from reporters in Barcelona from the Los Angeles Times, Newsday, Baltimore Sun and Hartford Courant, all Times-Mirror newspapers.
