More than 1,000 swimming hopefuls for the 1996 Olympic Games will compete this weekend at the AAF Rose Bowl Aquatic Center in Pasadena in the United States Swimming Junior National Championships West.
A similar number from the eastern half of the nation will compete simultaneously in Charlotte, N.C. The five-day meet begins at 5 p.m. today with timed finals in the boys’ and girls’ 800-meter freestyle. The full slate of events begins Saturday with the 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 200 breaststroke and 200 butterfly. Preliminaries start at 9 a.m. and finals are scheduled for 5 p.m., Saturday through Tuesday.
