Rules May Be Eased on U.S. Services Firms: The government said it is willing to relax its rules on the entry of American services companies such as telecommunications and insurance on a reciprocal basis. The revelation came at a meeting on services trade between the two countries. The consultation was part of the stalled Uruguay Round of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. The U.S. trade representative will review the items on services the country is offering under GATT. The Philippines earlier offered a list of 1,087 products and services to be liberalized, including securities, insurance and telecommunications.
