* BankAmerica Corp. announced that it has retained Thomas M. Foster, an independent financial consultant and specialist in the formation and operation of “collecting banks,” to advise it on completing the formation of its proposed collecting bank.

Foster, 50, most recently was a principal architect of the successful Grant Street National Bank, established in 1988 as part of Mellon Bank’s restructuring.

He will concentrate on asset selection, capital structure, financing and organization of the proposed new entity during his assignment.
