BUENA PARK : Classroom Building Bids to Be Sought

The Buena Park School District will seek bids for the construction of classrooms and a parking lot at Buena Park Junior High School.

The additions--four classrooms and chemistry and computer labs--will accommodate 180 more students that the district expects to receive over the next few years, said Supt. Jack Townsend. The district has already added nine other classrooms at the school.

Part of a master plan approved by the Board of Trustees more than a year ago, the construction is expected to cost the district up to $1.2 million. The money will come from a reserve account from the sale of McComber Junior High School in 1988 for $5 million.

The project will add labs for chemistry and computer study, as well as four classrooms and a parking lot in the front. They should be built in time for the 1993-94 school year, Townsend said.

The master plan for Buena Park Junior High School includes a multipurpose facility that could also serve as a cultural arts center for the city. The school district and the city are in negotiations over sharing the cost and use of the proposed building.
