Barbara Miller; Historian Taught at Harvard, Radcliffe

Barbara Miller, 73, a historian who taught at Harvard University and Radcliffe College. In 1974 she became the first woman assistant dean at Harvard, after holding a similar position at Radcliffe. She had also directed the Women’s Archives at Radcliffe, now known as the Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America. She taught American history and literature at Harvard for 20 years before retiring in 1985. Her books included “A History of Women and Higher Education in America” and “Ancestors and Immigrants: A Changing New England Tradition.” On Thursday in Cambridge, Mass., of cancer.
