SAN FERNANDO VALLEY : Nat King Cole Scholars Named
Two San Fernando Valley students are among four high school graduates chosen to receive $10,000 Nat King Cole Memorial Scholarships, Capitol-EMI Music Inc. announced.
Sergio Serratos, 18, of North Hollywood and Trevor Lawrence, 17, of Studio City and two students from Michigan and Florida beat out 56 other applicants from across the country, Capitol spokeswoman Susan Lietz said.
Capitol, a Hollywood-based producer of records, tapes and compact discs, established the scholarship for Los Angeles students in 1990, and expanded the competition this year. To qualify, students had to demonstrate financial need, a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 and acceptance to a four-year college, preferably in the field of performing arts or music, Lietz said.
