Rafael Ruelas of Arleta knocked out Benjamin Dominguez in the first round in a lightweight bout at the Country Club in Reseda. Ruelas, 33-1 with 26 knockouts, stunned Dominguez with a short right, followed it with the same punch seconds later and put him out at 2:07 of the round with a five-punch combination. Dominguez (19-10) stayed on the mat for 45 seconds.
Ruelas will fight Jorge Paez, the former International Boxing Federation lightweight champion, Oct. 19 at the Forum.
Also, Gabriel Ruelas (32-1), the No. 1 ranked super-featherweight contender, won a lopsided decision over Ismael Diaz (18-6-2).
