LOCAL NOTES : Ex-Titan Jackson to Play Basketball in Luxembourg
Claudette Jackson, a former Golden West College and Cal State Fullerton basketball player, has signed to play professionally in Luxembourg, the college announced Tuesday.
Jackson, a two-time All-Big West pick, averaged 20 points and nine rebounds for the Titans last season. She will play for Spasta Basketball Bartrigen team in Luxembourg. Jackson is the second member of Fullerton’s team to play professionally. Genia Miller is playing in Japan.
Cal State Fullerton also announced that Tim Garrison will be an assistant with the women’s gymnastics program this season. Garrison was a member of the men’s team last season.
Rob Fanti, who led Saddleback College in receiving last season, will miss this season because of a foot injury, the school announced Tuesday.
Fanti, from Santa Ana High School, injured his foot in spring practice and it has yet to get better, so he elected to sit out the season. Last year, he caught 30 passes for 453 yards and two touchdowns as Saddleback went 10-1.
Fanti is the cousin of former Rancho Santiago standout quarterback Rich Fanti, who plays at Cal State Fullerton.
Saddleback also lost reserve running back Marwan Saba, who tore his quadriceps in practice. Saba, from Laguna Hills High, rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns in 44 carries last season.
Ken Langworthy, the goalie on Orange Coast’s state championship soccer team in 1989 and ’91 will attend Santa Clara University.
Langworthy was in goal in 1989 when OCC won the state title and was selected the most valuable player of state tournament. He sat out the 1990 season, then came back last season and was named the Orange Empire Conference player of the year. The Pirates defeated Irvine Valley, 3-1, to take the state title.
Jennifer Raworth, who played shortstop last spring for Rancho Santiago’s softball team, has signed a letter of intent to attend the University of Massachusetts. Raworth, who will have three years of eligibility at Massachusetts, hit .290 and scored 14 runs last year for the Dons.
Janice Parks, a three-time all-American infielder from UCLA, will be an assistant with the Rancho Santiago softball team.
