Sergio Jimenez of Mexico won the San Francisco Marathon in 2 hours 16 minutes 14 seconds, three minutes slower than the course record. Jimenez, 25, held back on the Hayes Street Hill, the steepest hill in the event, when a lead pack of a half-dozen men surged up the incline.
The women’s division was won by Irina Bogacheva, 31, of Kyrgyzstan, a former Soviet republic. Bogacheva finished in 2:36.24, four minutes ahead of Laura DeWald.
