Pair to Stand Trial in Slaying of Elderly Couple
Two men were ordered Monday to stand trial in the slaying of two elderly Clairemont residents.
Randall Clark Wall, 23, and John Richard Rosenquist, 28, are charged with two counts of murder, as well as single counts of robbery and burglary, in the March 1 attack that spared the couple’s 10-year-old great-grandson.
John Oren, 84, and his wife, Katherine, 73, were killed with a pipe that Wall wielded, according to statements both men gave to police.
Prosecutors are expected to file special-circumstance allegations that could lead to the death penalty for the two men. The pair will be arraigned in Superior Court on Sept. 21.
Wall formerly dated the Orens’ granddaughter and briefly lived at the couple’s house on Deerpark Drive.
“Randy did not get along whatsoever with my grandparents,” Wall’s ex-girlfriend, Tammie Decker, testified in court. “He was always getting into arguments with my grandmother.”
Deputy Dist. Atty. Michael Przytulski told Municipal Judge Ann P. Winebrenner two weeks ago that the soured relationship between Wall and the Orens gave the man a motive for the killings.
Both men admitted their roles in the killings during interviews with police several weeks after the deaths.
After hearing evidence presented over the past two weeks, Winebrenner ordered the trial. She added two felony counts against Wall and Rosenquist in relation to a sexual assault.
