The St. Louis Cardinals recalled third baseman Todd Zeile from triple-A Louisville and waived pitcher Jose DeLeon.

Zeile was hitting .311 in 21 games after being sent down because of hitting problems. DeLeon has won only eight of his last 61 starts and was 2-7 with a 4.57 ERA this season.

The Cardinals also added Ozzie Canseco, Jose Canseco’s twin brother, and four veterans recovering from injuries.

The list also includes first baseman Pedro Guerrero, second baseman Jose Oquendo, pitchers Joe Magrane and Bryn Smith and minor league first baseman Rod Brewer.

The Minnesota Twins traded pitcher Bill Krueger, 10-6 with a 4.30 ERA in 27 starts, to the Montreal Expos for outfielder Darren Reed. . . . University of Texas center fielder Calvin Murray has decided to return to school rather than accept a $500,000 offer from the San Francisco Giants. . . . The Atlanta Braves sent minor leaguers Sean Ross and Nate Minchey to the Boston Red Sox to complete the trade for relief pitcher Jeff Reardon and also designated reliever Mark Davis for assignment.
