MOORPARK : House Fire Causes $130,000 in Damage
A fire in a Moorpark home Tuesday caused $130,000 in damage, destroying all of the residents’ belongings and furnishings, authorities said.
The fire caused $80,000 in damage to the $140,000 house on Deep Well Lane and destroyed $50,000 worth of personal items inside, said Ventura County Fire Department spokeswoman Christine Peterson.
Gerald and Gina Benson, who are renting the house, were not home when the fire began about 11 a.m., Peterson said. The owner’s name was not available. The Bensons’ 14-year-old dog, who was in the house at the time, inhaled smoke and firefighters had to hook the animal up to an oxygen machine, Peterson said.
A firefighter and a Ventura County Animal Regulation Department officer took the dog to a veterinarian, Peterson said.
