Most volleyball players concentrate on one position but not Kollias. She’s the Gauchos’ setter and outside hitter.
Kollias, who was an All-Orange Empire Conference selection last season, displayed her various talents well Friday when she had 14 kills, nine aces and 29 assists as Saddleback outlasted Palomar, 15-3, 8-15, 15-2, 9-15, 15-9.
Kollias, who went to Capistrano Valley Christian High School and was the most valuable player in the Olympic League in 1990, had 25 kills, 40 assists and 10 aces for the week.
Other top performers:
Lana Atchley, a cross-country runner for Golden West, won the Golden West Invitational in 20 minutes 34 seconds.
Sonja Hildebrand, a cross-country runner for Saddleback, won the Riverside Invitational in 18:55. It was her third victory in three races this season.
