Washington became only the fifth Orange County community college back to rush for more than 200 yards in a game when he gained 202 in 24 carries in a 42-35 victory over Southwestern in Mission Conference play Saturday. He also caught two passes for 16 yards.
Washington also scored four times on runs of 14, three, one and three yards. In three games this season, he has rushed for 416 yards in 59 carries, averaging 7.1 yards.
Washington came to Orange Coast from Sherborn High School in Dover, Mass. He began last season as a reserve behind Adrain Steen. But after Steen was injured, Washington moved into the starting lineup and gained 591 yards and scored nine touchdowns.
Other top performers:
Giuliano Bertolucci, who had 51 saves and allowed 14 goals for Golden West’s water polo team, which won the Merced tournament.
Fullerton’s Shaun Nichols, who won the men’s cross-county race at the Golden West Invitational in 20 minutes 57 seconds.
