Pasadena : Psychiatric Facility to Open
Huntington Memorial Hospital will open the Della Martin Center for Behavioral Services, a psychiatric treatment facility, today.
The first of four phases of inpatient services will have 14 beds for patients with mood disorders. Outpatient services, also opening today, will focus on behavioral medicine, including chronic pain and stress management, smoking cessation and weight reduction.
Della Martin was a San Marino resident who died in 1978, leaving $887,000 to the hospital for a psychiatric service center. The hospital spent several years exploring business partnerships with psychiatric management companies. In the meantime the funds had grown to $4 million, so the hospital decided to build the facility alone, said Ron Bingham, center administrator.
