VENTURA : Church Schedules Program on Racism

An hourlong program of music, song and readings with anti-racism themes will be held Sunday at the Ventura Unitarian-Universalist Church.

The program, which is open to the public, will look at how racism affects liberal churches. It will be presented by the Beyond Racism Task Force of the First Unitarian-Universalist Church in San Diego, at 9 and 11 a.m.

“We are seeking to curb racism in our community,” said Pat Sprague, task force spokeswoman. “We do not want to have happen here what happened in Los Angeles.”

The task force was created in May, after the riots in Los Angeles.

The church is at 4949 Foothill Road, Ventura. Child care will be available for the 9 a.m. service.
