LOS ANGELES COUNTY : Board OKs Pygmy Pigs as Household Animals
The latest pet fad to hit the area was given formal recognition Thursday when county supervisors legalized Vietnamese potbellied pigs as household animals.
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a $50 license fee for the pygmy pigs, as they’re called, and a $125 breeding fee. The board stipulated that the pets must be “no higher than 20 inches at the shoulder . . . no longer than 40 inches from the tip of the head to the end of the buttocks, and (weigh) no more than 120 pounds.” Only one pig per household is allowed.
