Banker to Be Tapped as Finance Minister: The chairman of one of Taiwan’s largest banks is expected to be named finance minister. The United Evening News said P. Y. Pai, chairman of International Commercial Bank of China, will be approved as finance minister at a meeting of senior officials of the governing Nationalist Party on Wednesday. Wang Chien-Shien resigned as finance minister last week amidst a heated national debate over land tax reform.
