Chechens Reportedly Ordered Out of Region

MOSCOW — State television said Monday that officials in Kazakhstan have ordered Chechens expelled from one of the Central Asian republic’s regions in what could be the first such official deportation since Stalin’s days.
The expulsion order by the regional council in the northeastern industrial city of Ust-Kamenogorsk followed clashes between Kazakhs and ethnic Chechens in which four Kazakhs died.
In the 1930s and 1940s, Stalin moved millions of people, including the Chechens, who come from southern Russia.
