SUN VALLEY : Compost Plant Ordered to Reduce Foul Odors
A Superior Court Judge this week issued a temporary restraining order against a Sun Valley wood recycling plant that neighbors said emitted a foul odor.
At the request of the South Coast Air Quality Management District, Judge Robert H. O’Brien ordered Milestone Energy Corp. to reduce the smell by speeding up the process by which it prepares green wood and lawn trimmings for sale as compost.
Under the order, Milestone must process all waste within 72 hours of its arrival on the premises, and must dispose of processed material within 72 hours after that.
“It smells like chemicals and wet wood,” said resident Juan Calito, who said his family of seven spent the hottest summer in recent memory indoors with the doors and windows closed.
