Sinead Brigade: After taking weeks of criticism for tearing up a photo of Pope John Paul II on “Saturday Night Live,” Sinead O’Connor got some support Sunday from a group that tore up pictures of the Pope in front of St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City. Calling themselves the Sinead Brigade, about two dozen people from different activist groups protested outside the church as Cardinal John J. O’Connor said Mass inside. Many were wearing Sinead masks and carried signs that read “The Pope Must Apologize, Not Sinead.” O’Connor has said that she tore up the photo to bring attention to the problem of child abuse.
