HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL CITY SECTION ROUNDUP : MID-VALLEY LEAGUE
North Hollywood 8, Grant 6--After three scoreless quarters, the Huskies combined a safety and touchdown and held off host Grant’s comeback.
North Hollywood (4-4, 1-4) opened the scoring when Damon Ollie blocked Sandro Perez’s punt. The ball rolled out of the end zone to give the Huskies a safety.
Ricardo Vazquez returned the ensuing free kick 29 yards to the Grant 35-yard line. Vazquez scored two plays later on a 30-yard run with 8:01 to play.
Grant (2-5-1, 2-3) cut the lead to 8-6 on the ensuing possession, scoring when running back Roy Rodriguez completed a 21-yard pass to Perez. Rodriguez again tried a halfback option pass on the two-point conversion try, but was tackled at the 10-yard line.
Grant regained possession with 1:39 to play. Quarterback Raymond Singleton scrambled to the Husky 22-yard line with 27 seconds left. But Grant coaches mistakenly thought Singleton had run out of bounds and time expired while the Lancers, who had no timeouts left, tried to send in a play.
