Meschuk, Whittier Christian Win With Fast Start
COSTA MESA — Aaron Meschuk rushed for 189 yards and three touchdowns, leading Whittier Christian to a 26-14 Olympic League victory over Calvary Chapel Friday night.
Meschuk improved his season total to 1,307 yards, second best in the county. He had 117 of his yards in the first quarter Friday, including scoring runs of 37 and 30. A fourth touchdown, on a 56-yard run, was called back because of a clipping penalty.
The Heralds (5-3, 2-1) were near-perfect on their first three possessions, rushing to a 20-0 lead. They held Calvary Chapel to 32 total yards in the first three quarters and recorded five sacks.
But the Eagles (3-5, 0-3) made a late run. Matt Kellogg’s 37-yard run helped set up a 10-yard scoring pass from Waylan Kruse to Robert Hudson with 6:27 left. The Eagles recovered the ensuing on-side kick, but they lost yardage on three consecutive plays and threw incomplete on fourth down.
