SCC, The Master’s to Meet in Playoffs

The Southern California College men’s soccer team will play host to The Master’s College in the first round of the NAIA District 3 playoffs at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The fourth-seeded Vanguards (10-8-2, 3-4-2 in the Golden State Athletic Conference) were in danger of missing the playoffs for only the second time in seven seasons, before they tied Westmont, 2-2, in a conference finale Saturday. Four of the six teams in the playoffs are from the GSAC.

Westmont (12-5-3, 6-1-2) is top-seeded. The Master’s (6-11-1), an NAIA independent, is fifth-seeded. The winner between SCC and The Master’s will play its second-round match Saturday at Westmont. The title match is scheduled for Nov. 14, with the champion advancing to the NAIA national tournament Nov. 23-28 in San Antonio.
