WESTLAKE : D.A. Won’t Retry Doctor in Sex Case
The Ventura County district attorney’s office said Tuesday that it will not retry a former Westlake pediatrician on three sexual-battery charges involving a Calabasas woman.
Deputy Dist. Atty. William G. Karr said a retrial of Stuart M. Berlin is unnecessary in light of Berlin’s conviction last week on three other misdemeanor sexual-battery charges.
A Ventura County Municipal Court jury decided that Berlin, 35, was guilty of fondling three Ventura County women in his office during the summer of 1991. But the jury deadlocked on three other charges involving the Calabasas woman.
Judge Barry B. Klopfer scheduled sentencing for Jan. 8. Berlin faces a County Jail term of up to 18 months.
The physician has closed his practice in the Westlake section of Thousand Oaks.
