TOP PERFORMERS
Estancia running back Cody Charley rushed for 159 yards, including a 65-yard touchdown run in the third quarter of the Eagles’ 21-14 Pacific Coast League loss to Trabuco Hills.
Aaron Meschuk rushed for 262 yards in 36 carries, scoring touchdowns on runs of 57 and seven yards, to help Whittier Christian to a 20-7 Olympic League victory over Ontario Christian.
Marshall Brown had a hand in five touchdowns--rushing for two, passing for two and returning an interception 61 yards for another--to spark Rancho Alamitos to a 49-6 victory over Santiago in a Garden Grove League game.
Fountain Valley’s Bryan Gail caught seven passes for 133 yards in the Barons’ 17-14 Sunset League upset of Servite.
ON DEFENSE
Edison’s Paul Chalabian had five tackles for losses to spark the Edison defense in a 34-0 Sunset League victory over Ocean View.
Jason Cousins sacked Los Amigos quarterback Ape Tuato twice to help Pacifica post a 9-0 Garden Grove League victory.
HOME SWEET HOME
Seven high school football games have been played in Cal State Fullerton’s new campus stadium, and the home team has yet to lose.
Servite, which played all of its home games at Fullerton, beat Marina, Edison and Huntington Beach in Sunset League play and beat Valencia and tied Mater Dei, 0-0, in nonleague games.
Host Mater Dei beat Mission Viejo in a South Coast League game, and host Troy tied Sunny Hills, 21-21, in the final regular-season game scheduled at Fullerton.
If only Cal State Fullerton could enjoy the home-field advantage . . .
NOTEWORTHY
Estancia’s Matt Johner had a fine night both as a defensive back and a quarterback. He rushed for 54 yards in 16 carries, including a one-yard touchdown run, and also had two interceptions against his Trabuco Hills counterpart, Pat Barnes.
ODDS AND ENDS
Hosed off: The Servite sideline was drenched midway through the third quarter of the Friars’ game with Fountain Valley when the sprinklers inexplicably were turned on. On the play after the waterworks ended, Fountain Valley scored the decisive touchdown in a 17-14 victory that denied Servite a chance at an undefeated season.
