Younger Preserves Calvary Chapel Victory
ARTESIA — Sabe Younger scored a touchdown and intercepted a pass in the end zone as Calvary Chapel defeated Brethren Christian, 10-7, Friday night at Artesia High.
On the Eagles’ first possession, Younger was on the receiving end of a seven-yard Waylan Kruse pass for a touchdown. Late in the fourth quarter, Younger also halted Brethren Christian’s last serious scoring threat by intercepting Reggie Davis’ pass in the end zone.
Younger ended the evening with a team-high five catches for 39 yards. Kruse accumulated 108 yards by completing 10 of 22 passes to secure the Eagles’ first Olympic League victory this season.
The Warriors (6-3, 3-1) tied the game with 3 minutes 49 seconds remaining in the first half on a quarterback keeper by Davis.
The Brethren Christian quarterback ended the night with 43 yards rushing and 143 yards passing, connecting on eight of 14 attempts.
Calvary Chapel (4-5, 1-3) put the game away on a 26-yard field goal by Aaron Fountain on the first possession of the second half for the Eagles.
