COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Titans Lose in Overtime in Soccer
Cal State Fullerton lost to Washington, 3-1 in overtime, Friday in a Mountain Pacific Soccer Federation playoff match at Washington’s Husky Stadium in Seattle.
Jon Marshall scored all three goals for Washington, which will play Stanford in the conference championship match Sunday.
Paul McDonnell scored Fullerton’s only goal 33 minutes 45 seconds into the first half.
Neither team scored in the second half, and the teams played a 30-minute overtime. Marshall scored at the 114-minute mark and again three minutes later to ice the game.
Washington is 13-2-3, Fullerton is 12-6.
In the Rolex Invitational men’s tennis tournament:
UC Irvine doubles advance--Irvine’s Frederik Bach and Jerry Miyamoto defeated Deril Merino and K.C. Flynn, of Loyola Marymount, 6-0 and 6-1 in the third round at UC Irvine.
Chris Tontz and Aaron Stolpman, also from Irvine, defeated Pat Boise and Matt Rivera of Nevada Las Vegas, 6-2, 6-2.
In third-round singles play, Stolpman lost to Matt Quinlin of UCLA, 6-1, 6-3.
Top-seeded Sebastien LeBlanc of UCLA defeated Fritz Bissell of UCLA, 6-2, 6-3, and second-seeded Laszlo Markovitz of UC Santa Barbara defeated Robert Janecek of UCLA, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6, to advance to the semifinals.
