Simi Valley 28, Channel Islands 13--Eric Bennett completed 13 of 24 for 227 yards and three touchdowns to lead visiting Simi Valley (6-3, 4-2). Bennett, a senior, has passed for 2,418 yards and 26 touchdowns this season.
With the Pioneers leading, 14-0, at the half, Channel Islands closed to within seven in the third quarter on fullback Sal Lopez’s four-yard touchdown run, capping an 11-play, 72-yard drive.
Simi Valley’s Bryan Kalbfus caught four passes for 128 yards, including touchdown receptions of 30 and 53 yards. Kalbfus has 12 touchdown receptions this season, including six in the past two games, and is averaging 30.0 yards a catch.
Jevon Makarian rushed for 47 yards and one touchdown in 12 carries.
The Raiders closed to within 21-13 on Lopez’s four-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. He finished with 85 yards in 19 carries. Brian Ortiz of Channel Islands (2-7, 0-6) carried 22 times for 114 yards.
