PORT HUENEME : Man, 24, Hurt in Drive-By Shooting
A 24-year-old man was injured in a drive-by shooting in Port Hueneme early Wednesday, police said.
Lawrence Cooms, 24, of Oxnard was driving in the 700 block of Bryce Canyon Avenue shortly after midnight when two males in another vehicle pulled alongside his car, police said. The passenger in the second vehicle showed a handgun and Cooms sped away from the area.
The passenger then shot at Cooms’ car, striking him in the left shoulder, police said. Cooms was able to drive to his home and call for help. He was taken by ambulance to St. John’s Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.
No arrests were made.
At the same time as the shooting, several blocks away in Oxnard, police were responding to a call of shots fired in the 3900 block of J Street. No suspects were found.
The two incidents may be related, police said.
