Bystander Deaths in Police Pursuits
The concern over the recent rash of police pursuit crashes and subsequent injury to innocent people is well-founded. But to suggest that police alter their procedures involving pursuit, including suspending chases at a certain point, is not the answer. If that were to happen, suspects would be more inclined to drive into populated areas, knowing police would stop chasing, and take their chances with the helicopter.
It’s time we get tough and change the laws. If a suspect injures or kills someone whether they are fleeing police or driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, charge them with felonious assault or murder. It’s time these people stop getting coddled and are made to take responsibility for their insane actions.
