Golden Richards Accused of Forgery to Buy Drugs

Golden Richards, former NFL wide receiver, faces possible felony charges after his arrest for allegedly forging checks to buy prescription narcotics.

Family members say Richards, 42, who caught the final touchdown pass in the Dallas Cowboys’ 27-10 victory over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XII, is living in a Salt Lake City apartment with no money, no job and a drug habit that has forced him to sell his football memorabilia.

“It’s a sad situation,” said Royal Richards, a brother. “You wonder what the end is going to be. You hope things will turn around. You hope he says one day, ‘I won’t use drugs again.’ ”
