COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Golden West’s Women Win Easily at Riverside Tournament
Golden West, the fifth-ranked women’s basketball team in the state, rolled past San Bernardino Valley, 100-51, Monday in the opening round of the Riverside Holiday tournament.
Melanie Iwamasa, a freshman guard, had 22 points, and sophomore guard Erika Miller added 20 for Golden West (13-2).
Cinnamon Basco added 12 points and a game-high 23 rebounds for Golden West. The Rustlers outrebounded San Bernardino Valley, 82-45.
Despite winning, Golden West moves into the consolation bracket because of a scheduling conflict.
Golden West has a game at El Camino at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, and the Riverside tournament’s championship game is at 7 p.m. The consolation final is at 3 p.m.
In another Riverside tournament game:
Riverside Alumni 57, Saddleback 50--Shelly Calhoun had 13 points and Gillian Bean and Tonya Stevens each had 11 for Saddleback (2-4). Saddleback plays Golden West at 1 p.m. today.
In nonconference men’s basketball:
Grossmont 67, Orange Coast 61--Billy Coulthirst scored 16 points and Lee Mills added 15 for Grossmont (2-9). Orange Coast (3-9) was led by Jeff Porter with 18 points.
